Curaçao's Playa Lagun and Bahia Beach Bar

One of the beaches that we found most stunning while spending a week in the beach-rich island of Curaçao is Playa Lagun.

We first laid eyes on Playa Lagun when we stopped at for lunch at Bahia Beach Bar & Restaurant after visiting Sint Willibrordus area to see flamingos and the Williwood sign and after stopping at the Santa Martha Bay View Lookout Point.

We enjoyed the food at Bahia Beach Bar & Restaurant, but the view of Playa Lagun is also fantastic!

We arrived in late morning (not quite noon) and were the only party there originally on this weekday.

We were able to sit in the outdoor seating with these incredible views.

Our plan was to visit the national parks Christoffel National Park and Shete Boka National Park after lunch and then snorkel later at Playa Lagun, but our will power to put off snorkeling in Playa Lagun was seriously tested as we looked longingly at the gorgeous water.

We were able to take our eyes off of the glorious view long enough to enjoy our lunch.

We had seen grilled ham and cheese sandwiches with pineapple at other restaurants and decided to try it here. It was a tasty combination and something I'll likely do at home the next time I have one of my infrequent hankerings for a grilled ham and cheese sandwich.

We didn't dine alone. While we were eating, two iguanas approached us. One can be seen at the bottom of the next photograph.

I had intended to try iguana (likely in a soup), but was glad that I had not tried it at this restaurant because that would have been awkward.

The other iguana that approached our table had been sunning itself while enjoying the view of Playa Lagun.

Birds were also interested in potentially sneaking some of our food.

We ultimately did go first to see the two national parks before returning to Playa Lagun because those national parks close in the early afternoon and we could access Playa Lagun later in the day.

Even with that sound reasoning, it was difficult to pull ourselves away from Playa Lagun.

If we ever get the opportunity to visit Curaçao for multiple days again, I'd seriously consider spending some nights at the Bahia Apartments.

After experiencing Christoffel National Park and Shete Boka National Park, we returned to Playa Lagun. The beach was fairly busy, but we were able to find a parking spot directly next to the beach because someone must have just exited.

We rented a couple of beach chairs for one person to sit with our stuff while the other three snorkeled.

The photograph immediately above shows the Bahia Apartments and Restaurant and Bar and the photograph immediately below shows steps that lead up to those.

Playa Lagun looked different (but still beautiful) in the afternoon sun than it had in the morning sun.

We snorkeled along both walls.

The highlight of snorkeling at Playa Lagun may have been the turtle we saw leisurly swimming relatively close to the shore.

We occasionally ran into schools of fish.

The sharptail eel that looks like a sea snake was also fascinating.

Because we did not snorkel in Playa Lagun until late in the day, the beach started emptying while we were there and early sun setting began.

Playa Lagun is a gorgeous beach with very protected water sporting high visibility.

Playa Lagun is one of Curaçao's beaches where the focus is on the beach, the water, and the marine life rather than on the beach amenities and partying. That's just one of the reasons we loved it!

Playa Lagun has been called "The Small Intimate Beach of your Dreams" and it's difficult to disagree with that.
