Curaçao Hato Cave

The Curaçao Hato Cave (also called Hato Caves) is located really close to Curaçao Hato International Airport, so we visited before going to the airport after our week in Curaçao.

There is a parking area outside of the archway to enter the grounds, but there was plenty of room for us to park in the one-way oval parking lot behind the entryway arch.

We knew that the cave tour is approximately 45 minutes, but we needed that tour to start by a certain time in order for us to have sufficient time to get to the airport (a few minutes' drive away). Fortunately, that tour started in less than 30 minutes, so we purchased the tickets and then looked at the Cactus Garden while we waited for the tour to start.

The Curaçao Hato Cave's Cactus Garden webpage states:

If there's one word that describes Curaçao's most common plant, it's the Cactus. Curacao hosts hundreds of species and most indigenous cacti of our beautiful island can be admired in our cactus garden. Refresh your knowledge and see what the difference is between a Datu and a Cadushi or between an Infrou (Curacao leaf cactus) and an Opuntia…

We did see _many_ cactuses (or cacti) during our week in Curaçao (such as when we visited Fort Beekenburg).

The tour group included approximately 20 participants (another tour group formed a few minutes after ours with another twenty or so participants) and we headed up the stairs to start the cave tour.

There is a view of the coast before entering the cave.

There is a sign at the entrance to the cave stating, "Masha Masha danki = Thank You! for visiting us!"

The cave is well-lit and there are easy-to-read signs.

There are numerous interesting and beautiful geological formations in the cave.

We enjoyed the tour of Curaçao Hato Cave. Although we've experienced caves several times before and touring a cave would not be the first thing we'd recommend to those visiting Curaçao, it was an interesting tour that fit into our schedule perfectly before needing to go to the airport to leave Curaçao. One thing that sets this cave tour apart from others is coverage of its place in history.
