Although Curaçao may be best known for its numerous gorgeous beaches and picturesque waterfront, its national parks on the northern part of the island offer their own beautiful scenery.
Christoffel National Park is Curaçao's largest national park and it is adjacent to Shete Boka National Park.
The Wikipedia article on Curaçao states that Christoffel National Park "has more biodiversity than elsewhere on the island."
Christoffel National Park is arguably best known for its hiking and trails. In particular, its Christoffel mountain trail is recommended as "a strenuous but rewarding hike and climb and a must see for anyone who visits the island!"
If you decide to hike it, be sure to see 8 tips for climbing Christoffelberg.
Due to time limitations (and because we arrived well after 10 am), we instead drove a car route.
We stopped a few times on the car route and our first stop was at Boka Grandi. This ia a gorgeous viewpoint and the map points out that swimming is not allowed here (which seems reasonable when seeing this firsthand).
Much of the road is a dirt road.
Although a dirt road, it was mostly easily navigable with our rented front-wheel drive vehicle.
Our next stop was at the caves.
There is a short and beautiful walk from the small parking area to the caves.
There are two caves and one of them can be entered.
The other cave is closed to entry to protect bats.
The accessible cave gets warmer and more humid as you walk further into it.
The hole at the top of the cave entrance is an interesting visual.
Our last stop was for another overlook of the coast.
We enjoyed seeing a different side of Curaçao at Christoffel National Park.
