We spent the better part of two days of our week in Curaçao at the Curaçao Sea Aquarium.
The Curaçao Sea Aquarium is in a beautiful setting and is reached by walking across a short bridge that connects the parking area to the main facility.
The Curaçao Sea Aquarium offers several exhibits in a compact area that makes it easy and quick to see these exhibits.
One of the first exhibits encountered after entering is the flamingos area. These flamingos could be calm for a period of time and then start making aggressive sounding noises towards each other.
An aquarium houses a huge goliath grouper and a tank with nurse sharks.
There is also a tank with stingrays and lobsters.
There are also several lagoon areas fed by the Open Water System.
Several exhibits have shallow water and people visiting the aquarium can touch some of the sea animals in these shallow exhibits.
There is also an interesting exhibit called the Underwater Observatory in which participants board a boat that likely never moves and climb down a short ladder to see a view of one of the lagoons below the surface without getting wet.
The Underwater Observatory at Curaçao Sea Aquarium allows people to see the same fish and marine life that one swims near and among when participating in the Animal Encounter experience.
There are also some traditional fish tanks, but it'd only take an hour or less to see the exibits, tanks, and lagoons if one wanted to rush through the aquarium. However, more time should be allotted if one wants to watch the shows and participate in the experiences offered throughout the day. These rotating events are listed on the Daily Schedule that is provided when you enter.
We participated in the Flamingo Feeding, Stingray Facts and Feeding, the Curaçao Underwater Kunuku Documentary (interesting 30 minutes video in comfortable theater seating that is available on YouTube), and the Dolphin Training Demonstration (twice, once each day).
We ended both of our days at the Curaçao Sea Aquarium by watching the Dolphin Training Demonstration.
We probably would have spent just one day at the Curaçao Sea Aquarium if we had not done any of the "extra" activities, but be we did participate in (and highly recommend) three additional experiences (separately charged) that each will be covered in its own blog post: Animal Encounters, Ocean Lens (which includes private tour of the aquarium), and Substation Curaçao.
We ate lunch at the Curaçao Sea Aquarium and it was typical of what you'd expect at an amusement park, zoo, or aquarium.
The prices of experiences and admittance at Curaçao Sea Aquarium are extremely reasonable. At the time of this writing, admission to the aquarium is $15 USD.
