Ocean Lens and Tour at Curaçao Sea Aquarium

We spent the better part of two days at Curaçao Sea Aquarium during our week in Curaçao in December.

One of the reasons that we spent nearly two full days at Curaçao Sea Aquarium is that we participated in three "extra" activities including the Ocean Lens Curaçao.

The Ocean Lens experience web page calls it "the ultimate peek into the deep!" and further states, "Climb down 19 steps into a 17 foot (5.2 meter) deep chamber with a large window, called the Ocean Lens, through which you gaze out into the sea."

The Ocean Lens is reached by climbing down a ladder to the large window area.

The fish gather for the bucket with fish food that is lowered in front of the Ocean Lens.

We were excited to see a moray eel checking out the action.

We were late to the Ocean Lens experience because we got out of our earlier Substation Curaçao experience later than we had anticipated (it was worth it!). Fortunately, because we had participated in the Animal Encounters experience the previous day, our guide was able to skip some of the things on the tour that we had already seen. We were thus able to spend the normal amount of time in the Ocean Lens and still see a guided tour of some parts of the aquarium we had not already seen.

Regarding the tour that is included with the Ocean Lens experience, the Ocean Lens web page states, "Accompanied by a marine expert, you will also get an introduction to Curaçao Sea Aquarium in an exclusive guided tour, taking you behind the scenes. You will get introduced to our unique Open Water System and learn about our extensive efforts to contribute to marine life preservation."

As we started to leave the Ocean Lens for the tour, we spotted this iguana hanging out.

Because of our rather late start and because we had already seen much of the aquarium the day before before and after our Animal Encounters experience, most of our tour focused on things we had not already seen. In particular, we got special access to the roof of the aquarium as part of this tour.

The large orange building in the background is the adjoining Royal Sea Aquarium Resort.

This provided a pretty and different perspective of the Curaçao Sea Aquarium's Open Water System.

We also saw this gorgeous coral in the coral that is part of the aquarium's soft coral farm research project.

Another marine research project is the Queen Conch Hatchery.

We enjoyed the beauty of the Ocean Lens and the interesting things we were shown and told about on the private tour of Curaçao Sea Aquarium.

We thought the price for the Ocean Lens (including private tour) of $59/person (USD) was reasonable.
