Nafpaktos: Venetian Castle and Port

After our lunch and stop in Preveza, we finished our drive along the beautiful coast to Nafpaktos.

Nafpaktos may be best known for the Venetian Castle that provides a commanding presence over the town.

We stayed at the Nafs Hotel and had a great view of the castle from our balcony.

We'd been on the bus quite a bit on the day we arrived mid-afternoon at Nafpaktos and decided to hike to the castle from our hotel.

Nafpaktos is filled with gorgeous alleys and roads as one begins to ascend from the coast.

There is a bell tower about one-fourth to one-third of the way up to the castle.

The views from the slight and mostly horizontal detour to the base of the bell tower are fantastic.

The views from the base of the bell tower are also spectacular.

There are also some interesting ruins on the route.

There is one remarkable view after another during the hike to the castle.

The castle appears much larger when right in front of it.

There are more great views after entering the castle.

After purchasing tickets, we walked up the stone stairway of the interior of the castle.

The Chapel of Prophet Elijah, one of the five attactions listed in the post "Nafpaktos Sightseeing," is inside Nafpaktos Castle.

More great views are had at the top corner of the castle.

You can even see the Rio–Antirrio Bridge in the distance from here.

The late afternoon sun added to the beauty of the interior of the Nafpaktos Castle.

After seeing the Nafpaktos Castle, we ate at the Castello Cafe just below it.

There are more incredible views from this restaurant.

Besides Nafpaktos Castle, Nakpaktos is also known for its gorgeous Venetian port.

The Statue of Anemogiannis is a prominent figure at the port.

The Statue of Cervantes is another prominent figure at the port.

The old stone wall around the port is fascinating.

Looking up the hill toward the castle and bell tower from port also offers great views.

The beach is not soft sand, but it is a beautiful view.

We spent two nights in Nafpaktos, which allowed for a day trip to Delphi between the nights. We enjoyed both evenings in Nafpaktos.

On our second night in Nafpaktos, enjoyed dinner in the "downtown" area near the port at the excellent Apiko restaurant.

This photograph was taken in Nafpaktos after our day trip to Delphi. The moped is a very popular means of transportation throughout Greece and especially in towns like Nakpaktos with so many narrow streets.

We loved our time in Nafpaktos!
