We started our first trip to Greece in Thessaloniki.
We had not heard of Thessaloniki before we began planning this trip, but are glad that we were able to spend three nights in this city, the second largest in Greece.
We spent our three nights in Thessaloniki at the Meditteranean Palace.
The Mediterranean Palace offers great proximity to Thermaic Gulf and to the historical Ladadika district.
One of Thessaloniki's obvious charms is its "stunning seaside promenade".
It was not surpising there were many locals walking, jogging, and cylcing along the Nea Paralia.
In addition to the natural scenery, Thessaloniki's Promenade also provides easy access to some famous sites and landmarks: White Tower, Umbrellas, Alexander the Great statue, and Aristotelous Square. It was quick, easy, and pleasant to see all of these!
The White Tower may be Thessaloniki's most famous landmark.
The Alexander the Great statue also exists along the Thessaloniki promeade.
Umbrellas by Zongolopoulos reminded me of the Reykjavik Sun Voyager we saw in Reykjavik, Iceland.
Aristotelous Square has been called "the most famous and popular square of Thessaloniki, Greece." It's easy to see why. These photographs are taken from the promenade.
There is a nice fountain near the portion of the Thessaloniki promenade where the Alexander the Great statue resides.
The Arch of Galerius (Kamara) is in Thessaloniki next to the Rotunda.
We also saw the Church of Hagios Demetrios, the Ancient Agora of Thessaloniki, and Ano Poli (upper town) while in Thessaloniki and these are the subjects of our next post.
