Corfu was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our first time in Greece and Corfu Town (or Old Corfu Town) was a big part of the highlight.
Corfu Town is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Corfu Town also has an airport and runway that had decent size airplanes carrying passengers between Corfu and other spots in Europe.
The Spianada is the main square in Corfu and is reported to be the largest square in Greece.
There are several smaller squares, such as this one housing the Georgios Theotokis statue.
Old Corfu Town's twisting, narrow, cobblestone streets are charming.
The Cathedral of Saint Spyridon is a beautiful landmark in Old Corfu.
Many of the shops are tourist-oriented.
The narrow streets of Corfu can feel crowded, especially when cruise ships are in port, but they are significantly less crowded when the cruise ship tour partipants return to the cruise ships.
The Schulenburg Statue is near the Old Fortress of Corfu.
The Old Fortress of Corfu is one of two Old Corfu fortresses.
There are nice views on both side of the bridge to the fortress.
The fort is large inside.
There are numerous great views even without climbing all the way to the fort's lighthouse.
The views from Corfu's Old Fortress's lighthouse are particularly impressive.
We especially enjoyed the view of Corfu from the lighthouse base.
The Old Fortress's Clock Tower is also pictureseque.
There is a large flat area in front of the Old Fortress's Church of St. George and the lighthouse can be seen from below from that vantage point.
The Maitland Monument is located near the Old Fortress and Spianáda.
The walkway along the Old Fortress provides beautiful views of the fortress and of the water.
Many of the photographs just shown were taken from or near the Anemomilos Windmill.
It's also from here that you get a clearer perspective on the desirable location of Hotel Corfu Palace.
As I look at these photographs of Corfu, I'm reminded how difficult it was to leave when the time came.
