Delphi: Archaeological Site, Museum, and Town

I was aware of Delphi and its general historical importance, but I was surprised how beautiful and inpsiring it is.

The ride from Nafpaktos to Delphi was beautiful.

We passed through a huge grove of olive trees on the way.

We also passed charming coastal towns on our way to and back from Delphi.

The multiple fish hatcheries along the way are also interesting.

Delphi combines ancient structures with beautiful natural scenery.

There are great views of the Delphi Gymnasium from near the main entrance to the Delphi site.

The Sacred Way leads through the Sanctuary of Apollo to the Temple of Apollo.

There are some incredible views from the Sacred Way.

Everywhere one looks while in the sacred area of Delphi is full on interesting sights.

The Treasury of the Athenians is one of the more picturesque sights.

The Stoa of the Athenians is another interesting sight.

The Polygonal Wall supports the Temple of Apollo and writing can still be seen etched into it when wet.

The Temple of Apollo is one of the highlights of Delphi.

The based of the Ancient Theatre is just past and just a little higher than the Temple of Delphi.

The Ancient Stadium of Delphi (Stadion) is higher than the theater.

After seeing the Ancient Stadium of Delphi, we returned down the path to the entrance to the site so that we could walk up the sidewalk to the modern Museum of Delphi.

There were numerous ancient artifacts, sculptures, and even paintings to see.

The bronze statue Delphi The Charioteer is one of the highlights of this museum.

After touring the Delphi archaeological site and museum, we ate lunch at EPIKOUROS Taverna Restaurant in the nearby town of Delphi.

We enjoyed multiple courses of Greek favorites.

We really enjoyed the Greek food at EPIKOUROS, but the view from the restaurant was also spectacular!

We strolled around a little on the main street of the small town of Delphi after lunch, enjoying the street itself and the views!

After an incredible day in Delphi, we returned to Nafpaktos for our second night there. This allowed us to enjoy the scenic coastal route again.
