We spent an extended Father's Day weekend this year in northwestern Colorado.
We've seen numerous places in Colorado, but this part of northwestern Colorado is one area we had still not experienced.
We experienced northwestern Colorado (particularly Steamboat Springs, Dinosaur National Monument, and Craig) as a road trip from the Denver metro area.
We stopped for lunch at Grand Old West on the main road (U.S. Route 40) through Kremmling on the way from Denver to Steamboat Springs and Craig. We enjoyed the salads there and the special of the day (a reuben sandwich) was tasty.
Quality Inn & Suites in Craig
We stayed all three nights at the Quality Inn & Suites in centrally located (for our planned activities) Craig, Colorado.
We rented one of the suites, which was spacious.
The suite includes a refrigerator and kitchen area.
The Craig Quality Inn & Suites is undergoing a remodeling and the hallways show signs of this, but we found the suite to be comfortable with good room air conditioners and comfortable beds.
Breakfast was included in the price. There were scrambled eggs available each day along with sausage patties or bacon. Small omelets were available two of the mornings and french toast sticks were available the third morning. There was a waffle maker, apples, some patries, yogurt, milk, juices, and other items also available.
Dinner at Craig's Fiesta Jalisco
Fiesta Jalisco is a relatively large Mexican restaurant in Craig (it has other locations in Avon, Breckenridge, Colorado Springs, Silverthorne, and Steamboat Springs).
The portions were large and we really enjoyed the different flavors.
A Movie at Craig's West Twin Cinema
We watched the movie Jurassic World: Dominion at Craig's downtown West Twin Cinema.
Experiencing a movie at West Twin Cinema reminded us of how theater movie watching used to be for us. We purchased the tickets at the box office rather than online and we chose our seats after the tickets were purchased based on who was already in the theater and which views we thought would be best. There also seemed to be a lot more people trying to find seats after the theater had darkened and even after the previews than we're used to seeing at theaters in the Denver metro area.
Dinner at Craig's Vallarta Mexican Restaurant
We ate one of our dinners in Craig at Vallarta Mexican Restaurant, which is located very near the Quality Inn & Suites in Craig.
Our party really enjoyed the appetizers and entrees at Vallarta's of Craig Mexican restaurant.
Lunch at Craig's Sizzling Pickle
We are lunch at Craig's Sizzling Pickle Eatery and Lounge just before leaving Craig to return to Denver at the end of our extended Father's Day weekend road trip.
The Sizzling Pickle Eatery & Lounge had some interesting menu items that we don't regularly see at the places we eat and so we tried some of those, including sharing the Princess Priscilla appetizer combination (we chose sriarcha fries, munchers, southern breaded fried okra, and nachos) among our entire party. By the way, "munchers" are "overside tater tots stuffed with diced jalapeno and cheddar cheese."
The pulled pork sandwhiches and daily special spicy Hawaiian chicken sandwich were also tasty.
