Silverton: A National Historic Landmark District

We drove the gorgeous "Million Dollar Highway" from Ouray to Silverton, another great mountain town in the San Juan Mountains.

It is easy to see why the entire town of Silverton is one of Colorado's 26 National Historic Landmarks.

Christ of the Mines Shrine

We drove up the short, narrow dirt road to the beginning of the trail to the Christ of the Mines Shrine north of Silverton.

The short uphill hike to the Christ of the Mines Shrine provides a close-up view of the shrine and also provides a nice position to view Silverton from above.

Thee Pitts Again

We decided to try Guy Fieri-featured Thee Pitts Again (Facebook page) for lunch.

It's located on the main street (Greene Street) in Silverton.

The inside is even more eclectic than the outside.

We really enjoyed our BBQ lunch at Three Pitts Again and were glad that we had chosen to eat lunch there.

Downtown Silverton

The most popular portion of Silverton's downtown are situated around the two major streets of Greene Street and Empire Street.

The World's Highest Harley Store is in Silverton on Greene Street.

These photographs are of the Old Town Square portion of the Silverton Historic Downtown.

We decided to eat dinner in Silverton at Handlebars Food & Saloon and enjoyed the western fare and western decorations at this popular establishment on Greene Street.

While in Silverton, we participated in the San Juan Backcountry Half-Day UTV Tour and in the Old Hundred Gold Mine Tour and stayed the night at The Alma House Inn (Silverton Inn of the Rockies). These are covered in more details in separate blog posts:
