There was a long list of things we'd have liked to do and see in our first visit to Puerto Rico, but which we not able to do. In some cases, this was because the activity was closed due to COVID-19, but in most cases we simply did not have enough time in just under a week to see and do all the things that Puerto Rico has to offer. We attempted to do and see a variety of different things to get a taste of the wide variety of things that Puerto Rico offers and we did accomplish that.
Here are some of the things we would have liked to do and/or see in Puerto Rico but were not able to in our first trip. The main purpose of compiling this list is to show how much there is to do in Puerto Rico. Keep in mind this list doesn't attempt to cover all the things there are to do in Puerto Rico, but is instead focused on the things we most wanted to do but did not have time to do or could not do because of closures.
- Attractions
- Kayak Trip to Cayo Santiago Monkey Island (Humacao)
- La Parguera Bioluminescent Bay
- We were fortunate to experience Laguna Grande Bioluminescent Bay (Fajardo) and Vieques's Mosquito Bay during our trip, but did not get to see this third of Puerto Rico's three bioluminescent bays.
- I don't think we will ever beat the brightness of Vieques's Mosquito Bay on the heavily clouded night we kayaked there, but La Parguera offers something that the two we kayaked do not offer; swimming and snorkeling are allowed.
- Mosquito Pier (Vieques)
- Cave Tubing on Tanamá River (Utuado)
- Camuy River Cave Park (Camuy)
- La Cueva del Indio (the Cave of the Indian) (Las Piedras)
- Cascada Gozalandia (San Sebastian)
- Charco Azul (Guavate)
- Arecibo Observtory (unfortunately collapsed months before our visit)
- Lago Dos Bocas (between Utuado and Arecibo)
- Castillo San Felipe del Morro (Old San Juan)
- Fortunately we were able to visit Castillo San Cristóbal on our trip.
- We saw it from the harbor and from near the Old San Juan Cemetery, but did not have time to go inside it.
- La Guancha Boardwalk
- We really wanted to see this while staying in Ponce, but sadly it was closed due to earthquake damage.
- El Yunque National Forest
- We rode ATVs through the foothills to get a taste of this tropical rainforest, but would have liked to hike in it and see some of the popular waterfalls.
- ToroVerde Adventure Park (Orocovis)
- Isla Culebrita
- We visited Culebra and Vieques on our trip, but did not get to this uninhabited island just off from Culebra
- Gilligan's Island
- Los Morrillos Lighthouse (Cabo Rojo)
- We did drive to Cabo Rojo and the base on the hill upon which this lighthouse is perched, but did not have time to walk to the lighthouse and it appeared to be closed while we were there anyway ("(currently closed for remodeling)").
- Guajataca Tunnel (Isabela)
- Beaches
- Playa Sucia (Cabo Rojo)
- Cities / Towns / Regions
- Dining
- La Estacion (Fajardo)
- Barrachina (Old San Juan)
- Other Lechoneras on La Ruta del Lechón ("Pork Highway")
- We were able to enjoy Lechonera Los Pinos during our trip
- Piñones
- Los Kioskos de Luquillo
- Dinghy Dock (Culebra)
