We had a lot planned for our first full day in Puerto Rico and so we needed to start relatively early. I was very relieved to realize after our long day and late night arriving in Puerto Rico that the location of our first activity (Marina Puerto Chico) was only 5 minutes away by car from the VRBO-listed condominium at which we were staying.
The gated Marina Puerto Chico is a small but very nice marina with nice facilities. It was here that we checked in with Kayaking Puerto Rico for the Mini Boat Snorkel Adventure. After a quick fitting of snorkel fins and a basic introduction to driving the mini boats, we boarded the mini boats and headed to our snorkeling destination. All participants had their temperatures taken and were given antibacterial fluid to cleanse their hands as they arrived.
We quickly drove our mini boats out from Marina Puerto Chico out to near Icacos Cay.
Our first of two stops was aways off of Icacos Cay in the more open water near a coral reef.
The water was very clear and there were several species of fish and eels to be seen. There were a lot of jellyfish as well.
Our second stop was in the shallow water along Icacos Cay's beach.
Many of the participants in our group of mini boats spent time on the beach or cay.
We mostly snorkeled some more and the best snorkeling in that area was under the pier.
This was a much busier spot than the first spot as other tour groups stopped here as well. We had several people in those other tour groups ask us about the costs of the mini boats. It was clear that they too realized what we realized; that it was fun driving and riding our own private mini boats out there!
This was a fabulous activity to kick off our first time in Puerto Rico. Christian and Brian were excellent and friendly tour guides and made it fun for everyone. They even recommended to us other activities to do in Puerto Rico such as the bioluminescent bays.
