We were not able to spend as much time in Cabo Rojo seeing the pink salt flats and Cabo Rojo Lighthouse (Faro Los Morrillos de Cabo Rojo) as we'd have liked because we had a scheduled appointment at Cueva Ventana.
To get to Cueva Ventana from Cabo Rojo, we needed to drive back to Ponce and then to Cueva Ventana. There was a stretch of road between Ponce and Cueva Ventana with climbing, narrow roads with sharp corners. One had no way of knowing about oncoming traffic on these corners due to the lush vegetation on the road. It definitely was not a boring drive. You know you've arrived when you see the Texaco gas station.
The parking area is above the entrance check-in point and entrance for the tour and has some nice views.
The guided hike enters the trees quickly.
For the most part, it's an easy hike, though there are stairs to traverse.
The "window cave" is even more amazing than the photographs.
Watching the birds flying around the "window" was also exciting.
As the hike gets close to returning to the starting point after seeing the fantastic "window cave," there are still some incredible views to enjoy.
At the bottom of the hill, next to the entrance to and exit from the Cueva Ventana tour, there is a small restaurant with outdoor seating called Bosque Bello Bar & Lunch.
We enjoyed the food at this restaurant, including the monfongo with the mashed plantains formed into a bowl that held the pieces of spiced chicken. It took a long time for the food to be prepared, but it was tasty, fresh, and welcome when it was ready. They had empanadas and other items already prepared in a case and anyone in a hurry would be better off purchasing something from that case.
