We visited the Dominica Botanical Gardens in Roseau one afternoon during our five nights in Dominica.
Dominica Botanical Gardens feels like a large city park with lots of open space, roads traversing through it, and lots of green surface area.
The roads in the park-like Dominica Botanical Gardens are in good condition and large enough for drivers to pull over to the shoulder to park and a lot of local residents had done just that.
Although it is reported that hurricanes have ruined a lot of this gardens' plant exhibits, there are still some interesting and beautiful plant species to be found.
Arguably the most famous exhibit in the Dominica Botanical Garden is "David the Goliath."
This is an African Baobab Tree (Adansonia digitata) that was blown down onto an empty bus during Hurricane David in 1979.
We were amazed that this tree is still living and has new growth even on the portion that fell on the bus.
The Dominica Botanical Gardens provided a pleasant experience of roughly one hour in a quieter part of the otherwise chaotic Roseau.
