Our First Time in Italy

We visited Italy for a little over a week in early November 2021 (which turned out to be a beautiful and less crowded time to visit).

This was our first time to visit Italy and we experienced several cities and towns including Venice (Venezia), Florence (Firenze), Rome (Roma), Assisi, Vatican City, Pisa, and Civita di Bagnoregio.

The "core" of this trip was the Gate 1 Travel escorted tour "8 Day Affordable Italy," to which we added an extra night in Venice at the beginning of the trip and an extra night in Rome at the end of the trip (total of three nights in Venice, two nights in Florence, and three nights in Rome).

As usual on Gate 1 Travel tours, our tour manager was excellent.

In an effort to make the most of the long flights to Europe and in an effort to efficiently use accrued time off from COVID-impacted 2020, we traveled to Greece as part of this same trip and we flew from Athens to Rome.

We then rode the high-speed train from Rome to Venice and loved this new-to-us way to travel.

A forthcoming series of posts will elaborate in greater detail some of the things we experienced during our first trip to Italy.
