One of our day trips while visiting friends in the Port Orchard area was to Bremerton.
Bremerton Marina
This "road trip" to Bremerton was actually a "ferry trip."
Arriving in Bremerton by ferry allows one to enjoy its scenic mariana area.
Harborside Fountain Park
There's a beautiful waterside park in Bremerton called Harborside Fountain Park.
As the name implies, this park is harborside and its main feature is its fountains.
It was interesting to see how different the colors of these fountains are when the water has stopped.
Puget Sound Navy Museum
The Puget Sound Navy Museum is located near the Bremerton Marina and Harborside Fountain Park.
It surprised me that admission is free at this fascinating museum.
The simple map of Puget Sound naval stations provided perspective on our location.
There are lots of things to see and the information is provided at an interesting level without being overly detailed.
I liked the small-scale version of Bremerton's Hammerhead crane at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
Bremerton Boardwalk
We had some time before our ferry departed to return to Port Orchard and we took advantage of that time to stroll along the short but interesting Bremerton Boardwalk.
The name of the Bremerton Boardwalk is the Louis Mentor Boardwalk.
A stroll along the boardwalk takes one to the entrance to the USS Turner Joy Museum.
There are other great views along the boardwalk in addition to those of the marina area.
We thought it was interesting to try to find the largest possible fungi attached to the boardwalk sea-facing walls, docks, and piers.
We also enjoyed watching individuals and extended families fishing for crabs along the pier.
It wasn't just people looking for crabs.
It was an easy, low-stress, crowd-free, beauty-filled day trip to Bremerton.
The weather was beautiful in Bremerton on this late August day and there wasn't a tsunami in sight!
