One of the interesting activities we participated in while staying in the Seattle area (Port Orchard) was Argosy Cruises's Locks Cruise featuring Ballard Locks.
This is a 2-hours one-way cruise that we rode from the Seattle Waterfront to the AGC Marina in South Lake Union.
This cruise provided another opportunity to enjoy the Seattle Skyline from the water.
There was a large cruise ship docked that day.
There were other ships to look at as well.
As we left downtown Seattle behind, the shoreline character changed on the starboard side and we had magnifest views on the port side.
It was also interesting to see some local wildlife.
The Salmon Bay Rail Bridge is a nice warm-up sight before the Ballard Locks.
The timing was just right so that a train passed over the Salmon Bay Rail Bridge just as we were going under it.
With a name like Locks Cruise, it's not surprising that one of the highlights is passing from salt water to fresh water on the Ballard Locks "boat elevator" officially known as Hiram M. Chittenden Locks.
We weren't the only ones looking at the locks from both sides of the locks.
After passing through the locks, there are two bridges that look really close together in the distance. The first is the Ballard Bridge.
We also crossed under the Fremont Bridge.
The cruise also passes under the Ship Canal Bridge.
Cruising by Gas Works Park makes it easy to see that from the water.
The floating homes community is fascinating to see with the homes literally on the water. This is the location of the "Sleepless in Seattle house."
The views of South Lake Union and the Space Needle from Lake Washington are incredible.
When we exited the Locks Cruise at Lake Union, we just had a short walk to the Seattle Center.
