We scheduled T-Lazy-7's "Maroon Bells Tour" (snowmobiling) near Aspen for just after the New Year before needing to return to work.
The Denver area and Colorado mountains had just seen a lot of new snow, so it seemed like a good time to go snowmobiling.
Unfortunately, we learned that the trail to Colorado's famous Maroon Bells was closed due to too much snow and avalanche risk, so the tour had to be changed to the shorter (and less expensive) Pyramid Peak Tour.
Although so much fresh snow meant we couldn't do the Maroon Bells tour, it was incredibly beautiful.
During the winter, the Maroon Creek Road is only accessible by passenger vehicles to the T-Lazy-7 Ranch.
During the winter, the portion of Maroon Creek Road past the ranch is used for snowmobiles.
You don't have to go very far to get some incredible views from snow-covered Maroon Creek Road.
We stopped on Maroon Creek Road for several minutes to take photographs after riding on some nearby trails.
A portion of the tour was riding on this oval track where one could go as fast as one wanted on the long sides.
After doing three laps on the oval track, we stopped for hot chocolate (or hot cider) from the small shack at one end of the track.
There are magnificent views to be enjoyed even while drinking the hot chocolate at the track.
After the break for hot chocolate, we got back on the snowmobiles for one more ride.
The last part was our favorite because the trail we rode on had lots of little hills to go up and down on like a roller coaster and the narrow trail had trees and shrubs on both sides.
We enjoyed the Pyramid Peak Snowmobile Tour, but would like to return some time to get to do the Maroon Bells Tour. The scenery was beautiful, but we still really want to see the snow-covered Maroon Bells up close.
The entire Pyramid Peak Snowmobile Tour is approximately 90 minutes, which includes two stops (one on Maroon Creek Road for photographs and one outside the oval track to sip hot drinks), leaving a little over 60 minutes actively riding the snowmobiles.
